2nd International Conference on Advanced Computing, Networking and Informatics (ICACNI-2014), was held on 24-26 June, 2014. The conference was organized by St. Thomas’ College of Engineering and Technology and it was technically co-sponsored by IEEE Computer and IEEE Computational Intelligence Societies, Kolkata Chapter. It was inaugurated on 24th June, 2014 in the famous Parish Hall, located inside the holy place of St. Paul’s Cathedral, Kolkata.

    The conference began with a welcome note by Dr. Subir Choudhury, the Director (Academic) of St. Thomas’ College of Engineering and Technology. It was followed by holy words and message by the Bishop of Kolkata The Rt. Rev Ashok Biswas. Prof. Dwijesh Dutta Majumder was the Chief Guest of the inaugural function. Prof. Majumder is an Emeritus Professor of Indian Statistical Institute, Kolkata and the father-figure of Pattern Recognition in India. Padma shri Prof. Sankar Kumar Pal was the guest of honor for the programme. Prof. Pal is a Distinguished Scientist and former director of Indian Statistical Institute. The inaugural program came to an end with a vote of thanks by Prof. Gautam Banerjea, the Director (Administration) of St. Thomas’ College of Engineering and Technology.

    The highlight of the conference was the Keynote address by Prof. Sankar K. Pal of Indian Statistical Institute, Kolkata. Prof. Dwijesh Datta Majumder chaired the session of Prof. Pal. The conference also had four invited lectures delivered by Prof. Saman Kumara Halgamuge of University of Melbourne, Prof. Bhabani P. Sinha of Indian Statistical Institute, Prof. Soumeyndu Raha of Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, and Dr. Swapnoneel Roy of University of North Florida.

    The conference received 646 technical submissions, of which only 148 papers were accepted based on at least two single-blind reviews. ICACNI included 20 technical sessions spread over three days during 24-26 June, 2014. There were four parallel sessions with a total of 148 paper presentation slots. The Proceedings of the Conference have been published in two volumes in the prestigious Smart Innovation Systems and Technologies Series, Springer.

      A special issue of the conference has been published in Innovations in Systems and Software Engineering 11(3), Springer.

    The conference, in its second edition, not only explored and recorded cutting-edge advancements in the field of Computer Science, but also brought into light several technical challenges that would be the research objectives for next decade.
